Has anyone gone through stem cell transplant?

Are you talking about a complete immune system reset stem cell transplant ?
Where drugs induce stemcells to come into the periphary then are harvested then the bodys immune system is destroyed by toxic chemo drugs then the expanded stemcells are reintroduced into the body..and grow a completely new immune system

or are you talking about stem cells transplanted from fat blood or umbilical sources ?

I havnt had either but wish both options were available..only seen them used in clinical trials which have strict entry requirements (one disease only etc)

Its about time in my humble opinion that these options come into the clinics in the very near future.

Although risky the first option has the greatest chance of being Autoimmune disease free for a long time...

I think Brenda is talking about autologous stem cell transplants where the immune system is destroyed and rebuilt with stem cells collected from bone marrow prior to the use of cytoxan.

You end up with a brand new immune system with no autoimmunity. It is still highly experimental and the treatment is not yet available to everyone, but as they refine and improve the treatment the likelihood of it becoming widely available as an off the shelf treatment for autoimmunity grows. Let's hope it is soon.

As I said in the other thread..some 200+ transplants that grow a new Immune system have been carried out...how many more experiments ?? I suggest that after many many years we are well and truly ready for this to become available.

Of course its not for your manageable Diseases..but for the most miserable painful ..quality of life ending sets of Autoimmunity.
The procedured are well known..the facilities are in place...lets get on with helping the very sick today.

An option and a hope of life.
