The doctors think my husband has an autoimmune disease (diagnosis based on positive response to prednisone). In early May his foot was hurting, so much so he thought it was broken so he went and had an xray. Nothing was broken. The pain persisted and a few days later he went to the doctor again, the diagnosis given was gout. About 10 days later his feet and ankles were very swollen with red, painful blotches in spots and it caused severe pain to walk or stand (he said it felt like he was standing on on needles). Three different doctors had never seen anything like this. He was given prednisone oral and the symptoms went away rapidly (within 4 days he was almost back to normal--except the original pain in one foot was still there). When the medicine dose he was prescribed ended (about 2 weeks) all of the symptoms quickly returned (feet and ankles very swollen with red, painful blotches, severe pain when walking/standing). Now he is seeing a rhuematologist who thinks he can find the cause. This doctor put him back on the prednisone (he is gradually weaning him off of it again and all the same symptoms are returning. Today he gave him an anti-inflammatory prescription and another antibiotic, and also wants him to see his urologist for possible prostate issues ( he was checked by the urologist 3 months ago and everything was normal). To date he has had every kind of blood work imaginable, a cat scan (head and chest), and xrays. Can anyone give us some insight? I would like for him to see a naturopathic doctor but there are none in our area. PLEASE HELP!

Sure sounds like gout to me, but I am not a doctor. Ask the rheumatologist about a colchicine treatment regimen.

    Good luck! --AmyP

This is just a thought....I have Wegener's and fight this same symptom from time to time. Has his Rheumatologist ran an ANCA test on him to rule out Wegener's?
